COMEDK Entrance Examination

COMEDK is the “Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka” to determine the merit of students seeking admissions to the Undergraduate courses in the Member Institutions of the Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation Trust (KPCF) in its endeavor to offer an effective, fair, transparent and non-exploitative testing procedure. There are 12 Medical, 25 Dental and more than 150 engineering colleges who make available almost 20,000 seats for admission.
 
COMEDK has been assigned the duty of conducting a Common Entrance Test for admission in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Engineering and Medical/Dental Courses each year across the State of Karnataka. The Common Entrance Exam conducted by COMEDK for the Undergraduate Engineering and Medical/Dental Courses across the State of Karnataka is termed as the All India Undergraduate Entrance Test or COMEDK UGET and the same for the Postgraduate Engineering and Medical/Dental Courses is termed as COMEDK PGET.   
 
The COMEDK UGET Exam Pattern covers a gamut of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and English.
Candidates applying for Engineering Courses (B.E.) only in the COMEDK UGET Exam will have to answer a  three hours duration Question Paper consisting of the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There would be 60 multiple objective type questions from each of the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics respectively, making it a total of 180 questions. One mark is awarded for every correct answer. There is no negative marking for a wrong answer, but in case of a tie the candidate with the least wrong answers will get selected.
Candidates are required to mark their answers on an OMR Answer sheet (Optical Mark Reader), which is machine read and evaluated.
Candidates applying for Medical/Dental Courses (MBBS/BDS) only will have to answer two Question Papers. Paper I will be of two hours duration, consisting of 60 multiple objective type questions from each of the subjects Physics and Chemistry respectively, making it a total of 120 questions. Marking pattern will be same as stated above.
Paper II will be of one and a half hour duration, consisting of 60 multiple objective type questions from Biology and 30 multiple objective type questions from English, making it a total of 90 questions. Marking pattern will be as mentioned above.
Candidates applying for both Medical/Dental and Engineering Courses will have to answer two Question Papers. Paper I will be of three hours duration, consisting of 60 multiple objective type questions from each of the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics respectively, making it a total of 180 questions. Marking pattern will be same as stated above.
Paper II will be of one and a half hour duration, consisting of 60 multiple objective type questions from Biology and 30 multiple objective type questions from English, making it a total of 90 questions. Marking pattern will be as mentioned above.
Syllabus for COMEDK UGET Exam for all the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematic and Biology will be of 10+2 level or its equivalent examination. The paper on English language will be of Matriculation standard and will test the candidate’s comprehension of the language, the structure of words, phrases, clauses, and sentences.

Eligibility Criteria 

Candidates applying for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses in the COMEDK UGET Common Entrance Exam needs to fulfill the following Eligibility Criteria:
 
(a) As per the Regulations of Medical/Dental Council of India the qualifying examination prescribed for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses is 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent examination recognized by State/Central Government. The last two years of study shall comprise of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (PCB) with English as a compulsory subject.
 
(b) The General Merit candidates must have passed the PCB subjects individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% aggregate in PCB (40% in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka state). Such candidates must also secure not less than 50% marks (40 % in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka state) in PCB in the Common Entrance Test of COMEDK UGET.
 
(c) The General Merit candidates should secure not less than 50% marks in English (40 % in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka state) in the COMEDK UGET Common Entrance Exam. However, the marks so secured in English will not be added for the determination of rank list as the rank list will be drawn exclusively based on the minimum required marks secured by the candidates in PCB. Also, a candidate is not entitled for a rank if he/she fails to secure 50% or 40% (in the case of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka state) of marks in English.
 
(d) The candidates shall complete the age of 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the MBBS/BDS course.
 
(e) Similarly those candidates who have passed the COMEDK UGET 2014 Common Entrance Exam qualifying examination prior to 2010 NEED NOT APPLY.
 
Candidates applying for admission to B.E. Courses in the COMEDK UGET Common Entrance Exam needs to fulfill the following Eligibility Criteria:
 
a) As per the existing norms of the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) the qualifying examination prescribed for admission to B.E. is 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent Examination recognized by State/Central Government. The last two years of study shall comprise of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) with English as a compulsory subject.
 
b) The General Merit Candidates should have passed with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks (40% in respect of SC, ST and OBC Candidates of Karnataka state) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) and should have passed these subjects individually. Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects along with Chemistry or Biotechnology or Biology or any other Technical vocational courses as one of the optional subjects. However, if there are any changes in the eligibility criteria by the AICTE, the same will be adopted.
 
c) An attempt in the Entrance Test seeking admission to Engineering courses is considered adequate for figuring in the Rank list.
 
It should also be noted that Diploma Candidates are not eligible to take COMEDK UGET Entrance Exam.
 
Candidates applying for admission to B.Arch. Courses in the COMEDK UGET Common Entrance Exam needs to fulfill the following Eligibility Criteria:
 
a) The qualifying examination prescribed for admission to B. Arch is 2nd PUC or 10+2 higher secondary or equivalent Examination with Mathematics as one of the subjects along with other subjects or a 10+3 Diploma recognized by Central/State Government and having obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate (45% marks in case of SC, ST and OBC Candidates of Karnataka).
 
b) The candidate should have appeared for National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) conducted by Council of Architecture with a minimum score of 80 out of 200 for both General Merit and Category Candidates.
 
It is also to be noted that:
 
(i) COMEDK will not be conducting any Common Entrance Test for candidates seeking admission to B. Arch (Architecture Course) as per its existing rules.
 
(ii) Candidates seeking B. Arch seats should submit separate application form along with a DD of Rs. 700/- in favour of COMEDK.
 
Admissions to Engineering and Medical/Dental Courses based on COMEDK UGET Common Entrance Exam are open to all the students across the country and not only for Karnataka students.
