Laughing gas is nitrous oxide, N2O (more properly called Dinitrogen monoxide). It is a colourless gas with a sweet odour and taste. Inhalation leads to disorientation, euphoria, numbness, loss of motor coordination, dizziness, and ultimately a loss of consciousness. The gas is used as an anaesthetic, as a propellant in whipped cream cans, and as an oxidizing agent in racing cars.
