Dadabhai Naoroji (4 September 1825 - 30 June 1917), known as the 'Grand Old Man of India', was a Parsi Intellectual, educator, cotton trader, and an early Indian political and social leader. Dadabhai Naoroji was elected to the British House of Commons in 1892, and was the first Indian to achieve that distinction. With transparent honesty and exemplary character he turned his talents to many fields. He displayed amazing mastery over facts and figures, established beyond doubt before the British public the appalling poverty of the Indian masses and ceaselessly strove for their amelioration. Ripe in age and wisdom and respected by all, he was justly hailed as the 'Grand Old Man of India'.
