The first Indian National Flag was hoisted in the Parsee Bagan Square (Green Park) in Calcutta on August 7, 1906. It was a 'boycott day' against the Partition of Bengal - done by Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon in 1905 - and Sir Surendranath Banerjee hoisted the flag to mark the unity of India. The flag hoisted then was composed of three horizontal strips of red, yellow and green. This flag went through many transformations and alterations before reaching its present stage, which was adopted as Free India National Flag on July 22, 1947 by the Constituent Assembly.
