During the regime of which ruler, the first vernacular paper of India, 'Samachar Darpan', was published of British India?

Options :
  1. Lord William Bentinck
  2. Lord Curzon
  3. Lord Minto
  4. Marquess of Hastings
Answer and Explanation :-

Answer: Option 4

Explanation:

During the regime of Marquess of Hastings, the first vernacular paper of India, 'Samachar Darpan', was published of British India. Warren Hastings was the first & famous Governor-General of Bengal & is the founder of the Asiatic Society of Bengal in 1784 but he was not the same man. Since we all know about him we mistook Marquess of Hastings as Warren Hastings. It is now a curious case of mistaken identity.
