The headquarters of East India Company was first located in Modern GPO ( Today's General post office) but in 1756 Sirajuddaula, Nawab of Bengal, defeated them & broke their headquarters & named it AliNagar but next year East India Company retreated & formed the headquarters in Fort William & defeated Sirajuddaula, Nawab of Bengal, by conspiracy in 1757 in the famous battle of Plassey, & it remained there in the pre-independent India.
